SNOW!!!

Well I have to admit I was a debbie doubter as to whether or not we would actually see any white stuff... living in the south you get used to them forecasting it and then you wake up to nada!! Well we did not get quite the amounts that some areas north of us have gotten but enough to excite the kids and enough for them to sled on. We ended up with a few inches and then some nice sleet on top to make it slick!! Daddy even got today off which was nice. Here are a few pictures of our fun!!

The Cub Mobiles

Alex's Scout Den is making these Cub Mobiles to race in March. Kerry and Alex helped make one at his Den leader's house last week and came home and decided to make 2 of our own. You know Kerry loves getting out all his fun tools and creating things so he enjoyed it and the boys love having another "thing" to ride around on!! Kerry has not put the brakes on yet so they can't ride them down the hill yet but they will soon I am sure. Here a few pictures.

Whew...what a rough week it has been around here!!

Well the flu finally found it's way to the Jacobs' household. Thankfully it only got to one member though and not everyone (yet, fingers crossed)... Alex was the lucky one! But thankfully he only had a mild case in my opinion based on what horror stories I have heard. He was feeling pretty lousy Wednesday morning when I took him in to the Pediatrician's office, fever of about 101.0, achy, congested, coughing!! She put him on Tamaflu since he has a history of asthma issues and I think that did the trick, by Thursday he was feeling pretty good and his fever had dropped to 99.0. Now today, Friday he is fever free. Still coughing a bit but otherwise good to go!!

Now me on the other hand... I was starting to feel pretty bad myself on Wednesday and thought for sure I would end up it too but my fever never went up but by Thursday I was coughing horribly... so today Friday, I went to my DR. she did a flu test to be sure and it was Neg. I have Bronchitis!!  So now I am on meds and hope to feel much better by tomorrow.

Good news is now it is snowing!! They say we might be getting a good amount but we will see in the morning. The kids are excited, me not so much, going out in this the way I feel is not happening! So they will play in the backyard I think!!

Can't believe it is time

Well today has been a very busy day and it is only lunch time! I had to get up early this morning to go sit in line at preschool to make sure I got Lainie in Ms. Felicia's class. She has repeatedly told me she wanted to go every day so she would have been very upset with me if she was not in. So the things we do for our kids! But she has a spot and my last little baby will go to preschool every day next year... then comes Kindergarten. Okay time to spot jumping so far ahead into the future.

I just completed Week 4, Day 2 of the Couch to 5K program and it went well again. Of course I looked ahead to the end of next week and they want me to run 2 miles straight, eeeekkkkk! Hope I improve alot in the next week or so. Found out today that the date of the Harrisburg 5K is April 17th so that is my goal. Running for 3 miles really sounds easy, right?!

My Goal for April

I am putting this in writing so everyone knows about it... I can not get out of it if I broadcast it.... I have started the Couch to 5K running program. Well I started on Week 4 b/c I had kinda been doing most of what they tell you do for the first 3 weeks. I have even motivated a few other friends to join me which is really cool since I was motivated by my friend Jennifer in TN to even look into it! So I compeleted Week 4 Day 1 yesterday, you do the schedule they describe 3 times a week for 9 weeks. At the end in theory you are ready to run a 5K. In April, there will be a 5K in Harrisburg... not sure I will be able to run the whole thing but I will certainly try hard. I have several friends who are long distance runners so they have been an inspiration too. One of which is my friend Mandie, who also battled Thyroid Cancer with me last year. She was just 2 weeks ahead of me and helped me so much thru that whole process. So I will once again look to her for support while I try to achieve this goal. So if you don't see me talking about this every week, ask me!! Keep me motivated!!

Feeling Blessed

With all the turmoil going on in the world, most especially in Haiti at the moment. It is nice to stop and feel the blessings that I have in my life. I am so happy to live in a nice house, have heathly kids, have a loving extended family, and to know that if something bad happened there are people in this world who would help us and care for us.

For those who might not know this yet, I have gone back to working... After a 6 yr break of not working outside the home, I started working part time. I am an Administrative Assistant to a woman who started her own Therapy business. She is a Speech Therapist and she has 6 other therapist who work with her. I go to her home and work out of her home office 3 days a week while Lainie is in school. I am doing all the filing, data entry, billing and receiving, etc. that helps Stephanie (my boss) have more family time. Before she was seeing patients several days a week and then doing all this paperwork in the evenings and weekends. She is very flexible as she has 2 kids so she knows how unpredictable life is with kids. Another great aspect is there are many things I can do from home from my computer. So while the kids are out of school this week, I am still working here and there from here. This is the first week I sorta feel like I know what I am doing and I am really enjoying it. Funny part is she works alot with the local CDSA who I went thru with Nikolas and Lainie, so having those experiences with my own kids helps me to understand what she does and how she does it. It is very interesting to be on this side of it as well. I am learning alot about billing codes and such.

So add that to my list of things I feel blessed about today, finding a great part time job that allows me to contribute to the household, feel like I have more to offer than being a Mom, and flexibility to still be with my kids.

The Kids

Well I guess I will start the new year off with updating this with what each child is like at the moment and what their interests are:

Alex, just turned 9 yrs old. Can't believe it, time is just flying by and he is such a sweet boy (most of the time). He currently loves anything Pirates of the Caribbean, loves music and can play the piano by ear or learns the music quickly, he is playing basketball again this winter and he enjoys it but this year is totally different that last year and he feels a tad intimidated. Makes me very glad I played him down last year. He made honor roll the first 9 weeks and he is so smart as long as he applies himself. While he can be the sweetest boy ever, he still has moments where he just explodes with anger. He feels that it is his way or no way alot of the time so that makes life hard when he is in this mind set. He is my parenting challenge and we are preparing to seek a new counselor for him and for us as a family to see if we can work on tools to help us both when he gets into these moods. But he still loves to read, he loves to talk, we joke that he should start his own talk show someday b/c he has opinions on everything and loves to talk about it all as much as he can.

Nikolas, also just had a birthday and he is now 6 yrs old. He is my love bug, loves to be with people and his friends. He started Kindergarten this year and it was a difficult transition for a month or so which really surprised me because he loved preschool so much. But once he made a few friends and got into the routine he has not looked back. He too is doing very well in school, he is in the highest reading and math groups in his class and he gets so excited when he learns new things. He is also playing basketball for the first time this winter in Upward like Alex. So far he is doing well, still trying to figure it all out and learn all the rules but he gives it his all. He is reading a little bit now and I know that is just going to explode here really soon.

Lainie, my little princess! She is now 3 1/2 yrs old... hard to believe this but she is!! Lainie loves all things girlie but still will play whatever the boys are playing. She is very into anything princess related or dressing up and that is one of her favorite things to do. We started ballet classes back in the fall and they just started learning this week the routine they will perform in the spring at the Dance Recital. She is going to preschool 3 mornings a week right now and has the same teacher Nikolas had, we love Ms. Nancy! I am about to register her for next school year and she wants to go EVERY day like the boys and be in Ms. Felicia's class like Nikolas was so that is the current plan. She is very bright like her brothers (not sure how my kids got so smart.) and surprises us all the time with what she comprehends and some of the words that come out of her mouth. She was our surprise blessing and we could not imagine life without her here b/c she brings us all happiness every day.

It is a New Year and I am going to Keep this Up to Date!!

Hello again, I am rejoining the blogging world and I will try to update this with daily life thoughts, big events or just when I need to vent!

I don't even really know the best way to put last year into words. It sorta feels almost like it was a bad dream at times but it was just something that happened. Finding out on May 8th last year that I had Thyroid Cancer will be something I will never forget. I guess because it just came out of the blue, I already had a feeling that would be the diagnosis based on what had occurred up to that point. I am so very thankful to my doctors that I can now say (or at least for the moment) that I am Cancer Free! But I will live with the thought that it could come back some day. I am learning to deal without having a thyroid gland, man you just don't know what you got until it is gone!! I still struggle with my emotions at times, with my patience and with remembering to take my vitamins. I am very good about taking my thyroid medication but do get frustrated when I have to wait an hour to drink my coffee in the morning if I don't wake up early and have time to go back to sleep for an hour. Anyway, I am blessed that it was found before it spread any further than my neck and I am very thankful for all the support and love from my family and friends.

So well, now it is time to move on with life and enjoy it to the fullest!! On to 2010!!
